lost shall be found

Not souls, exactly. But brochures. See them in the box in the closet.

This beautiful "faith and form" piece about the beauty and meaning of the architecture of Zion was running low out in the rack in the corridor. Somehow it fell to me to find the supply.

Or, did we need to print another run? I looked high and low. I enlisted custodian Bill in the search. I found out who served on the group which produced it--the likes of Pastor Scott and Brenda O.

Brenda to the rescue. The lost was right under the staff's noses, in a nondescript cardboard box in the supply closet.

flag me down

Hey, hours in church work are long. Tuesdays and Wednesdays it's wall-to-wall work for me. Thanks to Keystone I charge up my batteries with good ole breakfast country style. They don't make it better than this. Flag me down and I'll stop in. Besides eating alone, I've had two meetings here already. I've met Zion people on my way in and out. And where else can I see the Pennsylvania flag whipping in the breeze?

fun for February

On gray days in short, cold February, my heart cheers up when a friend sends a link like this:

local store

People love local. I know why. Local has touch and color. Local is heimlich.

Know where we are? I like the shopping cart cars "racing" the cruiser. How did Univest get a such a huge sign, larger than the Landis sign?

After ten weeks on the job, I finally got to Landis's.

Chaldean hymn--can we?

chaldean alphabet - Google Image Search

The Mennonite Central Committee Iraq contact has sent me two Christian songs in Chaldean. Now, to figure it out for Americans. An Iraqi family visits us here at Zion and I shall ask them to help me.

I thought--wouldn't it be great to sing a hymn that Iraqis are singing!

This sample image from Google is just an example of the Chaldean letters. What MCC sent to me was a sound mp3 file (to learn by listening) and the words transcribed into English letters and a translation, so we know what we are singing.

chldren voices after Christmas

Children's voices graced the worship at Zion around Christmas. How about now?

Right after worship last Sunday I scooted up to room 130. There the junior choir was meeting with Gail, trying to decide when they could sing next. Family schedules make it had to find a date.

I need to find the people who care and can find a way for every child to have some choir expereience.

When it was good

Yesterday these pews were pretty much full. I got a lot of feedback that the worship service was good, meaningful, etc. How can I extract an abstract conclussion from that? There are so many components to a service of worship.

What do I think? I noticed that the hymn singing was vigorous, especially the acappella verses. Praise and worship songs were led by two voices and one guitar. Was it that?

No, it had to be all the parts in concert. But to understand, complementary comments have to be explored as well as comments about disappointment. I'll ask the pastor and some music people.

Dutch signs off

One more thing on the choir folder boxes. Here's Dutch (after a Tuesday morning coffee with friends at McDonalds) signing his creation.

This is not the first item he made for Zion.
